Eternal Flame
Unpublished
From Piskarovskoye in Leningrad
To Nemayev Hill in heroic Volgograd
You opened up your heart, tears began to fall
Searching for your father’s name up on the wall
With a bouquet of roses standing in the rain
Drawn to the light of your eternal flame
Your father and mine fought together in that war
When will our children study war no more
From Rostov-on-Don heard your voices ring
Across the Gulf of Finland sailing on a ship of wings
In this land of many colors from you I have learned
Love is like a feather galling from a firebird
Now we stand together with our faces to the wind
The moment we now share may never come again
Like a family divided soon to reconcile
The tensions between us have melted in your smile
