Look At These Boots

Look At These Boots

Unpublished

Look at these boots out in the sun.
Can somebody please tell me how come?
For whom and for what did they give their lives?
These soldiers of war, these husbands and wives.

Were they rich? Were they poor? Did they believe
in this call to war, far overseas?
Did their President send his children to
fight in this war, to stand in their shoes?

Where are they now? Does anyone know
these young boys and girls waiting at home,
without a mom, without a dad?
How could they not grow angered and mad?

Each time they watch the news on TV
all the way from Baghdad to New Orleans.
Did their Congressmen, Senators send their children to
fight in this war, to stand in their shoes?

Look at these boots. Look how their worn.
Look at this flag all tattered and torn.
White as the stars of this universe.
Surrounded by blue waters of earth.

Red as the blood that runs through these veins.
Can somebody please tell me their names?
Does anyone know, anyone who
fought in this war, to stand in their shoes?

Look at these boots out in the sun.
