The Band Played The Beer Barrel Polka
From the Album Waterfront Records
Went to a party last evening
All the couples were all paired up in two’s
Me, I was standing in the corner
With my hands in my pockets and my feet in my shoes
The band played the beer barrel polka
The old folks got out on the floor
The young folks stood their bewildered
Taking turns sneaking out the back door
Out of nowhere she tapped me on the shoulder
Blew smoke in my face, while I spit on the floor
She said, “Hey, what’s that you’re chewing?”
When I told her Copenhagen she said, “God that’s gross.”
The band played the beer barrel polka
The old folks got out on the floor
The young folks stood their bewildered
Taking turns sneaking out the back door
I looked up when everybody started clapping
One year ago today without a divorce
Both of her parents looked so happy
When they thanked me for coming, I said, “Oh, why of course”
The band played the beer barrel polka
The old folks got out on the floor
The young folks stood their bewildered
Taking turns sneaking out the back door
