Farmers, Miners, Preachers, & Cobblers (unpublished)

Farmers, Miners, Preachers, & Cobblers (unpublished)

Crossing the prairie on a combine rolling
From Texas on up to the Canadian line
Where a freight train is heading into Montana
Soon to be crossing the Great Divide

Thinking of the people I’ve known in my life
Strumming this old guitar
Farmers, miners, preachers, and cobblers
To those I’ve known in the bar
Sleeping beneath the stars
Just watching the world go by

Most of the people that I have known
Have never had much to call their own
But a room and a kitchen, with a sign on the door
That reads, “Home Sweet Home”

Thinking of the people I’ve known in my life
Strumming this old guitar
Farmers, miners, preachers, and cobblers
To those I’ve known in the bar
Sleeping beneath the stars
Just watching the world go by

I’ve never been too good at names
I don’t think I ever will
Forget the look on the faces
Of those I’ve known, who can’t pay their bills

Thinking of the people I’ve known in my life
Strumming this old guitar
Farmers, miners, preachers, and cobblers
To those I’ve known in the bar
Sleeping beneath the stars
Just watching the world go by
