Just Another Barmaid in a Rich Man’s Saloon
Unpublished
Just another barmaid in a rich man’s saloon.
She keeps those drinks a-coming.
All the way up until closing time.
Putting up with men and their troubles,
who’ve got no regard for what she feels inside.
She’s young, she’s strong, she’s a woman.
She’s single trying to make it on her own.
Living with two other women
In an apartment that they call their home.
She’s running around the barroom all evening.
Trying to keep the customers satisfied.
If she ever told the boss what she’s been thinking.
She’d be standing in that unemployment line.
She’s young, she’s strong, she’s a woman.
She’s single barely making rent.
Working for ten dollars and sixty cents an hour.
Plus, what she can make off of tips.
When the night is over,
she sits alone by herself on the bar stool.
Tired looking back on the evening.
Trying to figure out how some men can be so cruel.
She’s young, she’s strong, she’s a woman.
She’s single trying to make it on her own.
Living with two other women
at a place that they call home-sweet-home.
Just another barmaid in a rich man’s saloon.
