In This World We Call Home
Unpublished
Seven colors of the rainbow
Seven notes to the scale
On the seventh day
With hopes we set sail
Across seven oceans
With dreams to prevail
In this world we call home
Midnight on the water
Stars overhead
May all of God’s children
Grow wise and well fed
Safe and warm
Each night in their beds
In this world we call home
But the oceans are rising
The weather is hot
The distance between
Those who have and have not
Grows ever wider
With each battle fought
In this world we call home
Where are the children
Where are they now
Their voices are rising
Above sacred ground
No one can stop
Such a glorious sound
In this world we call home
While the merchants
Of global free trade
Clear cut
And strip away
The land of our children
Where will their children play
In this world we call home
Dreams of ancestors
Rush to the sea
Through land that once was
Yet still must be
The hopes of our children
Live in you and me
In this world we call home
