Oh Son, Oh Son
From the Album Owen Valley Records
Down beneath the hard earth core
Mucking rocks in the shafts below
Where the air it’s thick with dust that sticks
To these lungs that work no more
Oh son, oh son won’t you go down there
To work in the mines so deep
Get out, get out before you lose
Your health and you end up like me
But I didn’t listen to what he said
To the mines I too did go
Now I cannot hear the songs
I sing while I did for ore
The miner’s life it’s a constant fight
With the company men
Who control him both by day and night
Take far more than they do give
This song I sing so often told
By those who still work below
Who dig the tungsten for the lights
That brighten up your lovely home
Oh son, oh son won’t you go down there
To work in the mines so deep
Get out, get out before you lose
Your health and you end up like me
