Grandmother’s Home

Grandmother’s Home

From the Album As In Those Early Days

We’d go to church on Sunday morning
Walking down a dry dusty road
When the preaching got done us kids came running
Back up the hill to Grandmother’s home

Where the maple tree stood outside her window
We climbed to the top to watch the wind blow
Held on tight to the branches swaying
Looking down from above on Grandmother’s home

Some people call it Grandfather time
But Grandmother made the hands go round
Some people look but they never find
The love that Grandmother found

Biscuits rising brown in the oven
Bacon bathing in grease on the stove
Blessing the food brought to the table
We never knew hunger in Grandmother’s home

Children of blood, children adopted
There’s not a child Grandma’ did know
Who didn’t feel a part of the family
Always room for one more in Grandmother’s home

Some people call it Grandfather time
But Grandmother made the hands go round
Some people look but they never find
The love that Grandmother found

Time stood still for more than a moment
The wind it chilled me to the bone
The tie that binds us all together
Binds us tight to Grandmother’s home

Some people call it Grandfather time
But Grandmother made the hands go round
Some people look but they never find
The love that Grandmother found
She now wears a heavenly crown
