Feathers Of Sunlight

Feathers Of Sunlight

Unpublished

One night I was dreaming
One night I was down
One night I was needing
Someone around
One night I was hoping
To find a friend
She stood beside me
Until the end

We lived on the mountains
We lived on the plains
We slept in the deserts
We slept in the rain
We organized farmers
Down in Tennessee
Wherever you saw her
You always found me

One night in Montana
In a rodeo town
Drank too much whiskey
Passed out on the ground
When I got sober
Could hardly believe
She was still waiting
To travel with me

Her body was golden
Her hair was red
On feathers of sunlight
I lay my head

From the top of the river
She followed me down
Through nuclear jungles
Through old river towns
From on top of the river
Together we flew
Straight to the Delta
In a beat-up canoe

Her body was golden
Her was red
On feathers of sunlight
I lay my head

As she got older
I was still young
I stood beside
Until her days were done
If love could be measured
In a matter of time
It would last forever
For never goodbye
