Dr. Massey

ā€œDemand of yourself what nobody can ever demand of you. Peace will never come until people do far more than what government, church, or people require of them.ā€ – Dr. Massey, Columbia, Tennessee

Fromt he Album Living In A Rich Man’s World

Dr. Massey he’s a preacher
He has faith in the Lord
But for me, I still have questions
When it comes to my soul

Lord, I don’t know what I believe in
I don’t know where I stand
When it comes to knowing Jesus
I don’t know who I am

Dr. Massey when I met him
I had no place to stay
He took the time to help me
This book to me he gave

I’ve read through your Bible
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
If you’re there, Lord please guide me
Through this night that has grown long

I’ve grown tired of my wandering
Like a child so far from home
To be found without direction
Traveling through this world of woe

The summer of 1978 I organized thirty producers of fruits and vegetables in and around Columbia, Tennessee into their own farmer-controlled market called Food Fair, where farmers sell directly to consumers out of their pickup trucks parked in church parking lots.

I met Dr. Massey at the start of that summer when I was down on my luck, without a place to stay, a farmer willing to sell, a church willing to let farmers sell and lonesome for a friend. Dr. Massey fulfilled all of the above.
