Looking for milkweed
Caterpillar crawling
A new day is dawning
Mexico is calling
Like jade and bright gold
Straight out of wonder
Beautiful wings now unfold
A monarch butterfly

Butterflies dancing
Dancing in the sunlight
Butterflies dancing
Everything’s going to be alright

Light as a feather
Falling from a hummingbird
Way up into the heavens
4,000 feet high
With millions of millions
Living in fir trees
All through the winter
To roost in Mexico

Five months later
Searching for milkweed
On up to Texas
On their way to Minnesota
Black-eyed Susan’s
Blazing stars, echinacea
Golden rod & aster
Nectar they love to drink

Everything’s going to be alright

Everybody do it
Everybody plant some
From Michoacán
Up to Saskatchewan
Milkweed and flowers
For the next generation
To live in a world
As free as the Monarch Butterfly
